Two days ago I watched the movie “The Imitation Game” with Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightly as the main characters. I have to say that I didn’t know anything about that movie. And the challenge now for me is to still review that movie without giving you any spoilers about the story.
8.2 IMDB points, holla!
To tell the truth, I’m not a huge IMDB fan when it comes to ratings. When I like a movie, I just like it no matter how many other people liked it or rated it. What’s more I get the impression that movies with an important historical value or movies that cover a serious topic always get a higher rating than let’s say romatic comedies. And I sometimes don’t agree with that, because I don’t think it’s possible to compare all the movies and rank them from 0 to 10 points, based on what?
Nevertheless I still find myself googleing the IMDB points to use it as a kind of indicator of what I can expect. I try to not take it too seriously, but if it has only below 5 points it’s probably really bad.
Anyway, since “The Imiation Game” had an average raiting of 8,2 points out of 10 which is a lot, my expectations of the movie were quite high.
Juding from the very predictable dialogues in the beginning, corny dialogues and kind of forced comedic/awkward situations (we get it Benedict Cumberbatch, you’re playing a super intelligent nerd in this movie), I thought the movie was going to be a desaster. But as I got used to forseeable situations and got over the bad special effects, I grew to like the movie.
Not your typical Hollywood kind of movie
You know what advice would have helped me before watching this movie? I would have told myself that I should be more patient, ignore the special effects and shouldn’t be too upset about every anticipated scene, because when you get used to this kind of narrative style the movie is not too bad after all. The fact that the two main characters are also accomplished Hollywood actors, can be a little misleading, because it’s not your typical Hollywood movie at all. Nevertheless I think the movie still has great chances to get an Oscar.
To sum up, I can say that this movie is totally worth watching even though it’s not your typical Hollywood kinda motion picture!
